Digital Video Resource Library (DVRL)

Orientation

Part 1: DVD and Movie Guides

Step 1: Look through the small booklet with descriptions of each of the 67 Movies on the DVD. Notice that for each movie there are these features:

  • Movie Title
  • Movie Number
  • Movie Description
  • "Recommended" Curriculum Connections

Note that the recommended curriculum connections are not intended to indicate all of the possible connections in each Movie, but rather some of the more obvious ones.

Movies are loosely organized according to type of subject, as follows:

  • 1000's: Physical Science and Technology
  • 2000's: Life Science and Technology
  • 3000's: Earth and Space Science and Technology
  • 4000's: Arts
  • 5000's: Infrastructure

Find a Movie that you are interested in watching, and note its Movie Number.

Step 2: Load The Futures Channel Digital Video Resource Library DVD into your computer.

Select "Movies by Number" on the opening screen.

Select the appropriate range (1000's, 2000's, 3000's, 4000's, 5000's).

Select your Movie Number.

Click on "Play" to view your movie. As you view, use your DVD player controls and menus to set the movie at full screen, control the volume, and change its playing speed.

Step 3: Look over the Movie Guide for the Movie you just watched, in your Movie Guide Binder (if you don't have a binder, you will have a chance to look at Movie Guides in Part 2 of the orientation). Notice these elements of the Guide:

  • Movie Title and Number
  • Movie Description (including the running time)
  • Background
  • Curriculum Connections (examples of real world applications of various mathematics and science curriculum topics)
  • Suggestions for other Movies you might enjoy
